Alika L. Edmonds Full Bio
Alika L. Edmonds, born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan, has been part of Kzoo LEADERs
since its inception in 2008. At age seven, Alika was a participant in the very first Kzoo
LEADERs Camp held in August 2008. After attending the Kzoo LEADERs Camp in 2008,
Alika began to help demonstrate the training at camps and clinics throughout the Kalamazoo
Area as a child and has continued to do so through adulthood. He has been doing individual
training sessions since his teenage years. Alika is a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School,
where he competed in cross country, baseball, and basketball. As a Senior, Alika was the captain
of the Varsity basketball team. While attending Kalamazoo Central, Alika was in the National
Honors Society and consistently made the Honor Roll, with dual enrollment at Western
Michigan University beginning his junior year of High School. He was Academic All-State in
baseball his junior year. The Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) awarded him
the Most Outstanding Senior Student-Athlete.
Upon graduation, Alika attended Kellogg Community College (KCC) in Battle Creek, Michigan
where he earned an athletic scholarship to play on the basketball team. He graduated from KCC
with two Associates of Arts degrees in General studies and General Arts, and he was consistently
on the Dean’s List. After the 2019-2020 season, he was awarded MCCAA Michigan Community
College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Academic All-Conference. At the beginning of the
2020-2021 school year, he was awarded the Floyd W. Tyler Memorial Scholarship. At the start
of the 2021-2022 season, he was named team captain. After the season, he made the National
Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Second Team, Michigan Community
College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Academic All-MCCAA, and MCCAA All-Conference.
To conclude the season, Alika was voted "Best Team Player" by his teammates and coaches. In
Alika's final semester at KCC, he made the President's List. He currently attends Western
Michigan University (WMU) in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he has spent his first year as a
Student Manager for the Men’s Varsity Basketball Program while playing for WMU’s Club
Basketball team as team captain. Going into his Senior year at WMU, Alika plans to walk-on to
the Varsity basketball team. He has continued to make the Dean’s List since arriving at WMU.
Alika has worked at the Maple YMCA in Kalamazoo as a Fitness Attendant where he has trained
youth and trained alongside other college athletes. Alika has taught chess to children involved in
the middle school programs at the Urban Zone in Kalamazoo. During his time at the Urban Zone,
he taught children critical thinking skills through playing chess and how it connects to life. As a
Student Manager at WMU Alika helps train student-athletes in basketball skills. Alika continues
to teach Chess to the youth at the WIRE Youth Development Program hosted by the Lewis
Walker Institute at WMU. Alika is going into his final year at WMU and he will be graduating
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and a Minor in Race and Ethnic Relations.
